The Opportunity

Do you want to play a vital role in supporting growers to adopt sustainable horticultural practices? Biological Services is seeking an IPM Consultant to service growers across WA.

You’ll spend most of your time in the field monitoring pests, beneficials and disease, advising on integrated programs, and supporting growers with timely, practical recommendations. In WA you will primarily work with strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, and to a lesser extent with greenhouse vegetables (e.g. capsicums, cucumbers, and tomatoes), ornamental crops, and nurseries. Occasional interstate travel may be required for training or coverage.

Key Outcomes of the Role

  • Visit grower sites to monitor pest, beneficial and disease levels, and assess program efficacy.

  • Prepare timely, accurate reports with clear recommendations.

  • Plan and manage monitoring schedules and on-farm visits, keeping communication open and responsive.

  • Arrange beneficial orders and deliveries and demonstrate correct release methods.

  • Collect crop samples for lab analysis when required.

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with growers through reliable, high-quality service.

  • Coordinate with administration WA/SA teams to ensure consistent programs and early escalation of issues.

  • Follow a mapped growth pathway: in the first few months you will focus on mastering crop monitoring SOPs and reporting basics; by 12 months you will be confident in crop monitoring, report writing, and making recommendations to manage the key pests and diseases; and by 2–3 years you will be independently managing programs, providing accurate recommendations, and progressing through Biobest Certified Advisor Program (BCAP) accreditation.

About You

  • You will bring either a relevant diploma or degree (entomology, horticulture, plant science) or strong industry experience in protected cropping.

  • You are motivated to learn quickly, with a sound understanding of pest and beneficial lifecycles or the drive to develop it.

  • You are a clear communicator with disciplined admin and reporting habits.

  • You thrive as part of a team, are teachable, reliable and accountable, and stay calm under pressure.

  • You are proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook and comfortable using field databases and apps.

  • You hold a current driver’s licence and can travel long distances when required.

  • You are committed to quarantine protocols and the safe handling of beneficials.

  • Able to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including working long hours in outdoor and protected cropping environments.

  • This role involves occasional long-distance travel, including overnight stays when required.
