About the Opportunity

 

Within SAHMRI’s Fundraising and Marketing division, you’ll be reporting to the Philanthropy and Engagement Manager and be responsible for building a sustainable portfolio of confirmed bequests and maintaining connections with bequestors, executors and trustees. This role also supports and promotes in-memoriam campaigns.

  

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing a bequest fundraising strategy
  • Identifying and cultivating bequest prospects through a variety of channels, including mining the database
  • Developing effective, tailored strategies to identify, research, engage and convert each prospective bequestor
  • Identifying opportunities to promote SAHMRI to prospective bequestors in the community through talks, events, personal contact, meetings and visits to the institute
  • Working cross-functionally to ensure that bequest fundraising is promoted effectively through advertising, collateral, appropriate communication journeys, events and third-party referrals
  • Liaising with online Will program providers
  • Promoting a positive image of SAHMRI through professional, efficient and friendly customer service and public speaking in a manner that maximises current and prospective donor engagement
  • Actively managing the portfolio of prospective and current bequestors by recording all activities, tasks, contact details, contracts, grants, acquittals and notes in the fundraising database
  • Liaising with solicitors, trustees and internal stakeholders to ensure timely receipt and acknowledgment of realised bequests
  • Assisting SAHMRI’s legal team with communication with estate executors and legal practitioners, responding to enquiries and administration support
  • Responding to enquiries from funeral homes and families regarding In Memoriam giving
  • Working cross-functionally to promote In Memoriam giving on SAHMRI’s website and elsewhere, to post In Memoriam giving pages promptly, and to supply funeral homes with adequate collateral promptly as required
  • Responding to donor enquiries and building relationships with In Memoriam donors and next-of-kin families
  • Preparing timely and concise reports as required
  • Ensuring that fundraising activities are legally compliant and in line with SAHMRI’s Fundraising Policy

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant qualification and/or relevant work experience within an equivalent role.

 

We’re seeking a confident and motivated Bequest Coordinator with a solid donor-centric approach, a love of forming positive, long-lasting relationships and a capacity to articulate and communicate SAHMRI’s values and culture

 

In addition to the above, to be successful in this role you will have/be:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear, communicative and collaborative style and the ability to form strong relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Mature approach, reliable, responsible, and empathetic
  • Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of the importance in engaging and recognising supporters in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to identify funding opportunities and develop prospects into loyal donors
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Minimum two-years’ experience in a donor relationship or bequest role
  • Demonstrated success with bequest fundraising
  • Are a member of FIA or similar fundraising organisation
  • A current Australian Drivers license

Special requirements:

  • Some out-of-hours work may be required
  • Some travel to the bequestor’s homes will be required.
  • DHS Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required
