Voluntary board opportunities for experienced Directors with a connection and care for improving the mental health outcomes of our community.

 

Board Opportunities

 

Join a passionate, skills-based board that supports an organisation making a real difference in the lives of people living with mental health concerns and their carers.  The vacancies have arisen through the retirement of several Directors reaching the end of their maximum tenure.

 

The responsibilities of the Board of Directors are:

  • Approval and review of Skylight strategy
  • Determining, reviewing, and maintaining the vision, mission and values of the organisation
  • Review, analyse and assess financial accounts, reporting and financial material.
  • Approval of Skylight annual budget and financial reports
  • Oversight of risks
  • Appointment and performance evaluation of the CEO, including supporting the CEO to achieve Skylight’s objectives and participating in the annual performance review process
  • Ensuring legal and contractual compliance
  • Supporting effective engagement with key stakeholders
  • Any additional monitoring of the organisation in order to satisfy that Skylight Mental Health is being properly managed

The Board is interested in applications from experienced Directors who have one or more of the following skills:

  • Finance/Accounting
  • Mental health services/structures/policy
  • Corporate governance
  • Risk management
  • Strategic planning
  • Experience with NFP Boards

Board meetings occur 6 to 8 times a year.  The meetings are on a Monday evening for approximately 1.5 hours based at the Wayville offices.  Attendance in person is preferred for the majority of meetings.  Additionally, you will need to be available for an annual AGM / Board workshop and to participate on at least one committee that will meet 4 to 6 times per year.

 

These are voluntary, non-remunerated positions.

 

About You

 

You are an experienced Director, quite possibly with a lived experience of mental health concerns or as a carer.  

 

You will bring:

  • Knowledge of a Director’s responsibilities
  • The ability to read, understand and analyse financial reports for strategic decision making
  • Understanding of the board’s responsibility for overseeing compliance with numerous laws, and individual director’s legal duties and responsibilities.
  • An understanding of risk management
  • Strategic thinking and commercial acumen
  • Knowledge of  general management, managing people, and achieving change
  • An understanding and/or experience of the issues facing people with mental health concerns and/or for those who care for them and/or experience with the NDIS

A graduate qualification from the AICD (or similar) is highly desirable but most importantly you must have strong alignment with the mission and values of the organisation.

Skylight Mental Health (Skylight) is a community-based, profit-for-purpose organisation, which provides a range of support, rehabilitation and education services for people with mental health concerns, their carers (family and friends), and the community generally. Skylight programs are based on a psychosocial rehabilitation model and focussed on recovery philosophy and practice. People are at the centre of our services and people with a “lived experience” are central to our planning and delivery of supports.

Skylight currently delivers services across a range of sites in South Australia in line with strategic business goals and requirements of grant funding, NDIS revenue streams, sponsorship and fee-for-service income.
