About the Opportunity Peter Elberg Funerals is seeking practical, well-organised Funeral Assistants to join our experienced and compassionate team. To be successful in this role you will be a hands-on person who takes pride in their work, respects every detail, and is committed to supporting both colleagues and grieving families with efficiency and care. You’ll assist with all facets of funeral preparation and delivery, ensuring every service is carried out to the highest standards of professionalism and respect. The role is physical and varied, and suited to someone who works calmly and purposefully under pressure. If you join our Funeral Assistant team, key responsibilities include: - Attending and supporting funeral services with attention to timing and impeccable presentation
- Providing discreet, respectful support to client families and mourners such as handing out memorial cards, assisting people to sign memorial books and complete donation forms
- Supporting Funeral Directors during services and viewings
- Anticipating needs and assisting in the smooth coordination of every funeral
- Serving tea, coffee and refreshments
If you join our Operations Team, key responsibilities will also include: - Setting up and packing down at cemeteries and venues (chairs, canopies, equipment, etc.)
- Vehicle care, general cleaning, and facility maintenance
About You You may not have considered a role in the funeral industry before but if you have experience as a retail assistant, working in hospitality, as a delivery driver, or any type of customer service role, this will be a great opportunity for you! You are a reliable, team-oriented person who is motivated by practical service and genuine care. While empathy is a must, your professionalism, efficiency, and respect for procedures are what ensure each funeral runs smoothly. You’ll bring: - A strong sense of responsibility and ability to self-manage tasks
- The foresight to prepare and plan ahead
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A full, clean Australian Driver’s Licence and safe driving skills
- A commitment to upholding dignity and discretion in every interaction
